William Anastasi Site-Specific Commission

As a pioneer of conceptual and site-specific art, William Anastasi (b. 1933) is perhaps best known for works exhibited in the mid-sixties at the Dwan Gallery, New York. His seminal 1967 exhibition Six Sites, pictured here, consisted of six photo-silkscreens on canvas. Each canvas pictured the wall behind it-that is, the wall on which it was hung-a full 90% of the size of the wall itself. The image of the wall does not represent the traditional "window through the wall" appearing to open a fantasy realm beyond, but simply represents the wall itself.

Mr. Anastasi has generously donated a site-specific commission to benefit the Foundation for Contemporary Arts: the collector who purchases this yet-to-be-made work can commission Mr. Anastasi to create a site-specific photo-silkscreen of a wall of their choosing.
